Jukun Buffalo Mask

New

H: 70 cm (2' 4")
Nigeria, early mid 20th century

Buffalo masks are traditionally significant to the Jukun and represent the connection to the spirits of the forest. This old mask, with two horns and tubular eyes, is polychrome painted with earth colors. The interior shows beautiful wear patterns and an old label collected by my father. Some old abrasions and partial loss to the lower edge.
