Kota - Ndasa, Guardian Figure

New

46 cm (1' 6"), Gabon

Similar to other ethnic groups in Gabon, ancestor worship is one of the most important elements of their religious life. The belief and incredible imagination of the artists created depictions that are unique and fascinating, so much so that even famous artists have eagerly incorporated this variety of ideas into their works. The collecting world remains fascinated to this day. The figure depicted is an excellent example of the Ndasa type. The oval face is covered with brass, while eyebrows and pupils are made of copper. The face is framed by a divided hairstyle: the part closer to the head is hatched and made of copper, the outer part is made of brass and ends in two bulged tips. The neck region and the symbolized legs are also covered with hammered brass. Due to age, there are insect damage spots both in the leg area and on the back. A rare object of high artistic quality.
