Ijebu - Yoruba, Armlet from a Royal House

New

15,5 cm (6"), Nigeria

An outstanding armlet made of brass casting, crafted using the lost-wax technique, originates from the royal family possession. In the middle area, four modeled leopard heads are attached. Since leopard insignia are exclusively reserved for a king, this armlet can be clearly assigned to the royal house. The armlet is elaborately crafted with braided circles and bars in an openwork design. At the end edges, cast bells were mounted with U-brackets; on one side, there are a complete 15, while on the other side, there should be 14, but only 9 of them remain.
