The function of body ornamentation such as jewelry in the struggle for survival was never material, but rather mythic-poetic. It evolved out of a metaphysics and acts as an alternative means of communication signaling status and intention. The materials used changed over time, but the belief in the symbolic and magical powers of forms and motifs remained remarkably constant.
A beautifully forged diadem made from silver sheet, partly oxidized.
