Mendi shields are used in battle as physical protection against arrows and spears, but their greatest power and threatening quality comes from the ancestors symbolized on the shields.
A very graphic war shield with traces of color pigments and decorated with two shells depicting a circle, probably a kind of protective motif. From a certain distance, we can almost make out a very abstract face!
